SHOKUCHI DEIRDRE CARRIGAN
Shokuchi Deirdre Carrigan studied yoga and trained as a teacher with Donald Moyer and Judith Lasater, both of whom received Senior Teaching Certificates personally from BKS Iyengar. She has taught yoga in this tradition for 30 years widely throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and also served for many years on the faculty of The Yoga Room Apprenticeship (teacher training) Program in Berkeley, CA.
Shokuchi’s approach to the practice and teaching of 100 Smith is slow and careful, and is informed by her passion for the study of human anatomy. Her classes encourage the development of a deep connection and responsiveness to the unique “inner body” of each person.
In 2010 Shokuchi was ordained by Tenshin Reb Anderson as a Zen Priest in the Soto Zen tradition of Shunryu Suzuki Roshi. She trained at San Francisco Zen Center for 20 years, and has taught annual Zen and Yoga retreats at Tassajara and Green Gulch Farm for the last 15 years.
Shokuchi currently practices Zen at Brooklyn Zen Center where she serves as Tanto (Head of Practice.)
